JAKJAZZ, introduced by Ireng Maulana, kicked off for the first time in 1988. This well - known Indonesian jazz musician was inspired to create a festival capable of becoming a gathering place for nations with jazz as it medium. All the invited musicians are known as jazz pioneers in their respected countries,which is why all the musicians 'origin / flags are always presented.Through this festival,Ireng tried and succeeded in replacing the heavy,abstract, old and arrogant perceptions in jazz music into a warm relaxed musical experience shared between the musicians and audience.
